Illinois Soul is a not-for-profit public radio station licensed to Illinois Public Media and the College of Media at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. FM 101.1 amplifies Black voices, music, and culture throughout central Illinois, and online, with the power of public media. Illinois Soul airs NPR shows, produces local news for broadcast and the Web, and works hand-in-hand with the community to address their needs and concerns.

Garrick Vice Chancellor for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion; Right: Luisette Kraal is often at the free clothing store she co-founded in the Uptown neighborhood helping migrants get basic needs or connecting them to resources. She and her husband, Ed, have lived in Chicago for 12 years. They've created a network of support for hundreds of migrants who have recently arrived in Chicago. But due to challenges with their immigration status, they might have to leave the country soon.

A Dialogue with Univ. of Illinois’ DEI leader and why a Black Illinoisan who helps migrants faces an immigration struggle herself

On this episode of Dialogue, we hear from Vice Chancellor for Diversity Equity and Inclusion at the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign Sean Garrick. Then we learn more about a video game about housing discrimination and woman from the North Side of Chicago who's one of the first advocates to help migrants when they were sent to police stations. And finally, we meet Major General Rodney Boyd, the 41st adjutant general of the Illinois National Guard.
